North Port to pursue deal for replica Major League ballparks
That is why it may have seemed fit to some -- and foolhardy to others -- that city leaders this week agreed to devote about a half-million dollars on a deal calling for the burgh to help a California company called Big League Dreams construct scaled-down replicas of Major League baseball stadiums such as Fenway Commons, Wrigley Field and Yankee Stadium.
If the deal proceeds, North Mooring would spend $15 million to build the replica stadiums on either customers land or land acquired by the city. It would sign a 30-year arrangement with Big League Dreams to run the operation.
In return, the company promises to let slip North Port a magnet that will draw thousands of recreational players to replica Important League baseball fields.
"This is going to have a great financial impact on the city," Commissioner Michael Treubert said, noting the buildings would allow up to 60 softball teams to play on any inclined night.
But the deal's payoff is questionable, especially accepted North Port's dire financial picture: In 13 years, Big Collude Dreams has paid more than $11 million back to its government partners at 10 facilities, while using infrastructure that tariff taxpayers $219 million in California, Texas, Arizona and Nevada.
Most of the $450,000 licensing fee, approved in a 4-1 elector Monday by the North Port City Council, is refundable within three years if no behave is solidified. Representatives from both sides will meet in the coming month to argue details, including the costs to participants.

West Memphis Friend Police Chief Mike Allen has applauded burgh leaders for passing the ordinance. Now he says the department is working with faithfulness based organizations. They plan to have officers talk to groups of teens about the dangers of replica firearms.
