More on Those “Gold and Silver” Bracelets
It appears I spoke too speedily in lauding Harper’s Bazaar magazine for not describing bracelets by Balenciaga as being made of “gold and silver.” Working my way through the September 2009 question major, I found that a bylined article entitled “Secrets of Effortless Look” does indeed describe the bracelets as “gold and silver,” and goes on to hold them out as an example of autumn’s “must-have machinery.”
Federal law governing the jewelry industry prohibits the use of the parley “gold,” without qualification, to describe jewelry that is not composed throughout of fine (24 karat) gold, and specifically to use that consultation to describe a product that is only surface-plated. Misuse of the term by someone within the dynamism may be considered unfair or deceptive.
I am not suggesting that Balenciaga is at defect here. While the Balenciaga web site does not presently include for cut-price any of the bracelets featured in either Harper’s Bazaar or Elle munitions dump, the site describes similar jewelry with similar payment points as composed of “gold-plated sterling silver.” I intend one can fairly conclude from the prices disclosed in Elle publication that the subject bracelets are similarly composed of gold-plated estimable silver. Certainly, in any case, a solid gold bracelet could not realistically be priced identically to one crafted of first-class silver.

Update at 3:47 p.m. ET: We merely got a note from a reader, Brian B., that includes a fasten together to a website for Jack Glenn. The sites says that Glenn was born in Tulsa, Okla., in 1923, which would have made him 21 at the outdated he went missing. A quick reading of the site indicates that while Germany reported through the Red Crucifix that Glenn had been killed, there appears to be no word indicating that his remains were found.
Click here for the website. And many thanks to Brian for forwarding the intelligence.
Update and correction at 3:52 p.m. ET: A closer reading shows how Glenn, known as "Bucky," was killed when his parachute failed to uncover and notes that he was buried in Belgium. Presumably the bracelet got spent in the crash.
