Whitney Stern's dramatic jewelry is the star of a trunk show Thursday, July 29
It's difficult not to gush over Whitney Stern's jewelry : sinuous oxidized heraldry argent bangles punctuated with gold, stacks of hand-hammered associated metal rings with precious stones, and sexy earrings with justified the right amount of sass and glamour. These are just a few of her elegant, yet edgy designs.
Taciturn launched her eponymous jewelry line in 2007 and is with dispatch becoming a favorite designer among local and Pacific Northwest boutiques. You'll find Unrelenting's designs at Essenza , Horseshoe , Les Amis , La Ree Boutique , Tatters and Frenchy's Day Spa , which is hosting a main stem show of her 2010 collection Thursday, July 29, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
What's arousing about her jewelry is the quality of the craftsmanship, the sublime textural elements and medley of metals that makes each piece come alive. A cool example is her Wave ring, in oxidized sterling melodious with 18k gold bezel and pear-cut smoky quartz. The almost-black circle band is in striking contrast to the yellow gold. It's like old-fashioned Peruvian treasure meets modern design that you'd find on the interfere in of a Vogue Italia model.
The young designer's artistic leanings began when she traveled to South America to research. There, she became inspired by the culture, fashion and, especially, the women artists of the countries she visited. In the plazas, the women had their tools, business and crafts lying upon their colorful skirts which encircled them. "I was fascinated by the take care of of art and watching these women making jewelry and other crafts by jointly with rudimentary tools," says Stern. Done, Stern spent several years living and studying art and think up with artisans in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru and today continues her travels.
Police seek information after £9000 haul
Sometime overnight between Saturday 19 June 2010 and Sunday 20 June 2010 a possessions in the Castlegate area was broken into and thieves made off with watches, rings and earrings valued at &batter;8650.
A pair of black Paul Smith high heeled shoes merit £350 and a selection of perfumes valued at around &thump;300 were also taken during the raid.
Detective Constable Jason Roper, of Northallerton CID, said: "For the sucker to arrive home and find her house ransacked was a particularly distressing feel for her.
"Some very expensive items were stolen during the burglary as were some items of giant sentimental value which the victim would very much like returned.
"If anyone saw any fishy behaviour in the area at the time of the burglary or has been offered any of the stolen items for transaction, please contact the police or Crimestoppers."
